RNA modifications often require chemical derivatization before detection by sequencing or mass spectrometry. For detection of pseudouridine, the chemical hydrazine is often used. Nur found out in her first first-author paper in Communications Chemistry, that hydrazine reacts with 8 natural RNA modifications and she solved the reaction products!
